NEW continuing education credits for 2024! Join Dr. Erin Calipari to learn about the Vanderbilt Center for Addiction Research (VCAR) and recent impacts of the cutting-edge research happening in the lab. Calipari will also be joined by student researchers from the Center who will share insights into their lab experience - favorite moments, what drives their work and more. 

Erin Calipari, Director of the Vanderbilt Center for Addiction Research and Associate Professor, Pharmacology, has worked with leaders in the field to develop a research program that is focused on solving the substance use disorder crisis. Her lab has made seminal discoveries on how drug use changes the brain at the systems and molecular level to give rise to addiction. 

Generative AI tools, like ChatGPT, are going to transform industries and ways of life. Join Dr. Jules White for an exploration of these new tools. White, a Vanderbilt leader in Computer Science and leader of a Coursera course that had more than 300,000 participants, will discuss the opportunities and capabilities of these language models and how they are going to transform the way we live. Jules White is a  Professor of Computer Science; Senior Advisor to the Chancellor for Generative AI in Education and Enterprise Solutions, and Professor of Biomedical Informatics.

Just days after the 2024 election, join Vanderbilt experts Josh Clinton, John Geer and Nicole Hemmer for an engaging and bi-partisan discussion. The group will discuss the campaign, what lies ahead, and what have we learned about elections and democracy.  This timely event will leverage their current class on the 2024 election that has over 900 students enrolled in it.

Generative AI has the potential to transform the legal landscape, offering unprecedented opportunities and challenges for legal professionals. This session will explore the intersection of generative AI and law, demonstrating its practical applications and limitations in a variety of legal tasks. Professors Cat Moon and Mark Williams of the Vanderbilt AI Law Lab (VAILL) will discuss the ethical considerations surrounding AI in legal practice, provide insights into effective prompt engineering for legal use cases, and offer strategies for leveraging AI to enhance legal expertise. Through live demonstrations and interactive discussions, participants will gain a forward-looking perspective on how to adapt to and thrive in an AI-augmented legal environment.

The tour runs from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Please plan to arrive on campus at 10 a.m. for shuttle check-in and boarding. We will return to campus via shuttle at approximately 1:00 p.m.

Shuttle service will be provided to and from the Drag Bus; registrants will received an email with shuttle and parking information.

The Law School is proud to house eight legal clinics that allow students to dive into various law fields, representing real clients and arguing actual cases under expert guidance. Students in the Stanton Foundation First Amendment Clinic represent individual and organizational clients in matters related to speech, press, assembly, and petition rights, including cases related to social media blocking by government officials, defamation defense, and access to public records.

The Turner Family Community Enterprise Clinic allows students to represent small businesses and nonprofit organizations in a range of transactional matters, including entity formation, governance, tax, contracts, employment, intellectual property, and risk management.

This panel discussion will feature two Clinic Directors and current students talking about their impressive work with our clinics.

The Student Center for Social Justice and Identity (SCSJI) will be hosting a Multicultural Mixer with Mimosas in advance of the tailgate and Homecoming football game! The mixer will be hosted with the AAPI Association of Vanderbilt Alumni (AAVA), the Association of Vanderbilt Black Alumni (AVBA), the LGBTQIA+ Association of Vanderbilt Alumni (LAVA), and the Vanderbilt Association of Hispanic and Latinx Alumni (VAHLA). This event is an opportunity to connect with Vanderbilt faculty, staff, students, and alumni who are interested in or identify with the multicultural community. 

Meet outside of Flynn Auditorium for 30-minute tours of the Law School given by current Law students. 

Get ready for the Homecoming football game with our annual Homecoming Tailgate! Alumni, friends and fans are invited to this family-friendly gathering that will have everything you need for the best game day experience, including Mr. C and the Spirit Squad. The tailgate will conclude at the start of the game. Kick off will occur between 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. CT. 

The tailgate includes a full meal with wine, beer, and soda.

Music of the 1970s

This talk will explore the musical sounds of the 1970s as a reflection of and shaping force on the decade. Through an interdisciplinary study, participants will gain a better understanding of the ways the decade's music was both a direct expression of the cultural context in which it was produced and a profound influence on the trajectory of musical sound and popular culture in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Robert Fry is a principal senior lecturer in musicology and ethnomusicology at Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music, where he teaches courses in global music, popular music, fandom, and music tourism. His research focuses on tourism and the role of fandom in the production of a musical place, which he has written about in articles, edited volumes, and his book, Performing Nashville: Music Tourism and Country Music’s Main Street.
