Taking Measure of Student Activism: The Student Health Coalition, 50 Years Later
In the late 1960's through the early 1980s, a group of Vanderbilt students who were concerned about social justice joined the Student Health Coalition, (SHC). As part of the SHC, they partnered closely with residents - listening, assessing needs, and collaborating on solutions.
Their work laid the foundation for a community-centered approach to healthcare that remains relevant today. Discover some key outcomes of the SHC efforts, how the SHC made a lasting impact, and how its legacy offers a model for addressing today’s healthcare challenges.
